So not true.....I agree with poster #3, this writer has NO idea what shes talking about. we've been rocking eurocentric hairstyles for the longest times because it was the way to better assimilate and succeed in white america with its eurocentric values such as long and straight hair. Black women go through so much to get their hair to look like that!!! But its whats in......and for a long time I felt like I had to but now Im trying to accept me for me....my hair how it naturally is! But we havent been rocking (popularly) our "crazy braids" since slavery times...and younger children do these days because they are too young for relaxers, but they will get their hair pressed at a certain age and then eventually one day relaxed. Other than the Afros and "let it be" lifestyle of the 60s n 70s....usually its the eurocentric hairstyles theyve been goin after!

Popular African-American styles have changed many times throughout the years. Popular trends have been braids and natural styles to straight styles to afro styles to long flowing styles. As the reader above wrote, many have embraced their braids and natural styles again. Many times over, other cultures embrace these trends as well because they see the beauty in them.

I'm surprised to read this article because, as an African-American living in the U.S for 50 years, I see the facts differently. The writer seems to believe that braids and cornrows have long been the norm for African Americans in this country, and that we're now wearing more "mainstream" styles. I think the truth is that our Western culture has established a Eurocentric standard of beauty, especially for Black women. So straight styles have been more normal for black women since about the late 1970's, not the writer's "tight braids."

In more recent years, African Americans and others of African descent have increasingly embraced our natural hair, moving away from, "mainstream styles." I'm not suggesting that most have made this switch; rather, I challenge the writer's assertion that we're moving fom "tight braids" to more Eurocentric styles.

The notion that our coily hair is not acceptable, not beautiful, not elegant, not sexy, and not professional is left over from the days of slavery and fed by Hollywood and the beauty supply industry. The "flowing hair in Hollywood" notwithstanding, we have begun to define beauty for ourselves.

Well i think cutting your hair is a good thing because if your hair is damaged like mine, then cutting it gives it a new start on growing more healthier the second time around thats if you are trying to let it grow out. If not then maybe the short hairstyle is better for you and me. There for i can be known as MS.BRAND NEW FOR ALL MY HATAS..................
